Parramatta Square 2
Parramatta Square 2
Linocut on Stonehenge paper. 38.5×31cm. Framed
In the Sydney Morning Herald on 26 April 2025, there was a very interesting article about Parramatta - the rapid redevelopment of the Parramatta CBD, especially the Parramatta Square precinct. I didn't know the background to this, but apparently the land around the train station was bought up a while back by Lang Walker and there was a lot of lobbying to rezone and redevelop the area into what it is shaping up to now, a hub of government agency offices and new hospitality venues.
Small disclosure, I happen to work in Parramatta Square, and happen to enjoy a bird's eye view of its vistas. So, during some less inspiring Teams seminars, when I can have my headphones on but don't need to focus on the screen, my artist eye wanders. And why wouldn't it. A bird's eye view of Parramatta Square with St John's Cathedral and its interesting shadows, the graceful curve of the light rail turning from Church Street, the interesting mix of historical architecture and the new geometric shapes, the flow of people swimming across the space with their shadows.
My series of small linocuts celebrates this space in its era of identity transition.
This is the first of the series, depicting St Johns Cathedral.
